Gardening for Life: Invasive Insects and How to ID them
Could you identify a Spotted Lanternfly if you saw one in your garden? Join horticulturalist Russ Norton for a special presentation on invasive insects. Spotted Lanternflies are just one of the potential pests making their way towards us that the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension (CCCE) has put on its “See? Squash it.” list. The bug hasn’t yet been found here but has been steadily creeping through Massachusetts. Russell, CCCE’s Horticulture and Agriculture Educator, will explain how to identify and report it – and other unwanted species - if you find one.
The event takes place on the eve of National Invasive Species Awareness Week (Feb 23-27), which aims to raise awareness as gardeners return to their yards ahead of Spring.
Hosted by Janice Donovan, manager of the historic Shirley G Cross Wildflower Garden, Gardening for Life is an annual series at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History that brings experts across a range of fields to speak to hobbyists and professionals. Upcoming topics include spring prep, attracting birds to your yard, and the secret world of fireflies.
PLUS, a bake sale filled with delicious treats, with proceeds going to support the incredible work of Brewster Pollinators.
