Nature Screen: Animals of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a treasured holiday, and not just for the USA, but around the world in many different guises. In Animals of Thanksgiving, the documentary visits other cultures to observe their celebrations of the harvest highlighting the different foods and feasts that unites us all: the generosity of nature.
Commemorated each year at Thanksgiving, no chapter in American history has been more clouded in myth and legend than the story of the Pilgrims. For many of us, the feast begins with turkey, though whether it was part of the first Thanksgiving remains a mystery. Along with Wampanoag Native Americans, they shared an autumn harvest feast that may have included wild animal foods collected from forest, meadow, and sea such as Atlantic Cod, white tailed deer, lobsters, waterfowl, heath hen, and even bald eagles.
