Silver Science: Across New Frontiers
Two Presidents, two races a hundred years apart that defined the United States of America. Join Harwich Observatory co-founder Larry Brookhart for a Silver Science presentation at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History exploring how US scientists and engineers tackled the challenges of rail and space.
The driving of the golden spike at Promontory Point in Utah on May 10, 1869 marked the completion of one America’s seemingly impossible tasks; to connect the country by rail. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong’s footsteps on the lunar surface marked the realization of another. Larry’s multi-media presentation, with an audience Q&A session afterwards, will explore how they were done.
“These were challenges born before the development of much of the technology that would be required to plan, build and execute the dreams,” said Larry. “We will look at the similarities between the circumstances and the obstacles they had to overcome to reach these achievements."
Larry Brookhart is the Director and one of the founders of The Harwich Observatory located behind Harwich Elementary School. He has encouraged students and members of the community to navigate celestial wonders using powerful telescopes at the observatory.
