25 Years of Gessner’s “Return of the Osprey”

Author David Gessner is returning to the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of his remarkable ‘Return of the Osprey’ book. The writer will be discussing his work and signing copies at a special event being held within sight of our very own Osprey nest out on the marsh.

‘Return of the Osprey’ was a New York Times best-seller upon release and was described by the Boston Globe as “a classic of American nature writing”. It records Gessner’s 6-monthimmersion into the world of the incredible birds, as the species fought back from the brinkof extinction.

A 25th Anniversary edition, with a new preface by the author and introduction by ‘H is for Hawk’ writer Helen Macdonald’, will be on sale at the event.

The ospreys’ lives have been streamed across the world by Museum cameras trained on the nest near our building since 2006. Every year, tens of thousands of viewers watch the pair’s arrival in early spring with audiences peaking when the eggs hatch around June. The livestream is available free on our website and there will be updates on our social media channels throughout the birds’ stay on the Cape.
