Eldridge Arnold “Wing”
This exhibit was made possible by the generosity of the ARNOLD FAMILY and HIS MANY ADMIRERS.
Eldridge Arnold was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. In 1948 he left the Marine Corps to enroll at the Maryland Institute of Art followed by the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Mr. Arnold started his own graphic design company through which he won the Excellence in Advertising Award in 1968.
Bird watching, bird carving at CCMNH. He later became a world-class bird carver, able to capture the reality of his wildlife subject in precise detail. His carvings were distinctly known for the manner in which he incorporated his birds into their natural habitat. He won many awards including the Elmer Crowell Award for Excellence in Bird Carving. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter, bird watcher and lover of nature which was displayed in his work.
Mr. Arnold passed away on July 1, 2009. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History and the Arnold family are proud to have the “Eldridge Arnold Wing” in his honor: the room replicates his Hyannis Port workshop area. Visitors will sense his amazing talent through displays of his carvings, drawings and many awards.
During the year we will have occasional bird carving demonstrations with local experts. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn the techniques used to create these incredible works of art. Check our calendar for dates and times.
